Last December, a couple of weeks before Christmas, we were on our usual trip to the boatyards and marinas of the coast between Oban and Tarbert.
Cold and hungry after photographing a couple of boats we stopped at the Cuilfail Hotel in Kilmelford on the main road just along from Kilmelford Yacht Haven. It was about 4:15 pm already dark as we pulled into the convenient car park. Was it open we thought?.. Well it wasnt quite, but apparently no problem - we were warmly welcomed by Yvonne and Simon the new owners & told that food would be available at 5pm. The fire was just getting hot so we settled down in front of it with a glass each to catch up with our notes for the day, and use the free WiFi to answer e-mail enquiries.
Before we knew it we were up to date and our food had arrived. Just the ticket!
All in all it was a very enjoyable stop, too soon over with us reluctantly heading back down the A816 towards Lochgilphead. We'll no doubt be back there soon and will take a few new photos to post here.
The Cuilfail Hotel is closed in January for the first phase of refurbishment, but reopens on the second of February, daily between 12-3pm and 5-11pm (all day in Summer). You are sure to find a roaring fire and a warm welcome!
If you've viewed one of our boats in Scotland the chances are you have met Rob, our voice of experience and enthusiasm.
