Morgan Giles MG30 - Details

Based on a classic design by Morgan Giles chief designer Kenneth Collyer, the design was approved by F C Morgan Giles before his death.

The first, Genesis, was built of wood and sailed in the 1964 Cowes Week. GRP moulds were produced and production eventually transferred to Somerset Plastics where some 70 were made for home completion before production ended in 1996.

This one was completed by the owner of a woodworking business in Essex. She is completed with teak deck and cabin sole. First commissioned in 1990 she was kept in Brightlingsea before purchase by the current owner in 1997.After a refit in Ardrossan she was sailed extensively on the west and north coasts of Scotland.

In 2005 a new Beta engine was fitted and the owner set off on a single handed round Britain cruise.

In 2007 she crossed from Shetland to Norway, cruising the west coast including Hardangerfjord. She wintered in Stavanger then in 2008 sailed to Gothenburg, through the Gőta Kanal to the Baltic, cruising Swedish, Finnish and Estonian waters, finally wintering in Austenborg in Denmark.

In 2009 she sailed back to Norway and cruised in the south west before crossing back to Lerwick and then on to the west coast of Scotland and her home port.

After a distinguished cruising career she is now in need of some work to bring her back up to the standard she deserves so the retiring owner has set her at a price to reflect the work required.

Solidly built from GRP but with the character of a classic, she would be ideal for a couple or a single hander wanting to just cruise wherever the wind takes them.
