Westerly Merlin - Details

A fine example of this robust but lively cruising yacht. Her early years were spent on Lake Windermere, followed by coastal cruising in the Clyde and off the West Coast of Scotland. She has had 16 years under her current owner.

Merlins are famous for how much headroom and living space the designer, Ed Dubois, achieved - 6ft headroom, good galley and toilet spaces: features equivalent to larger Westerlys and other marques.

As a Westerly the boat is strongly built, and well balanced under a simple but effective sail plan (easily handled solo), has a deep cockpit, and yet has the assurance of a powerful 20HP Bukh engine as back up or for ?motor sailing?. A great family cruising yacht for coastal, island, and inland waters.

Additional Info:

Windjammer is on an excellent pontoon position in Oban Marina. This ideal base for West of Scotland sailing is available to the new owner, if required.

The below-waterline hull was professionally sand-blasted and 5-coat epoxy treated in 1995. This was a precautionary measure after 10 years as there was no sign of osmosis, and none since. The boat has been over-wintered on land for 6 months every year since 1994 excepting 2010, with annual pressure wash, antifouling, and servicing of sea-cocks, engine, and rigging. It has just been antifouled, and serviced (including new anode) and is fully ready for the 2011 season.
