Built in 1959 by A H Moody & Son to a Charles A Nicholson design, Ivanhoe is constructed of Honduras Mahogany on American Elm frames, with a lead keel and solid decks.
About 18 were built at various yards to class specifications, with some minor variations in dimensions and layout.
She is a beamy boat for her period giving her a surprising amount of space below and a 5ft 11in headroom.
Designed in her day as a state of the art cruiser/racer she has a 7/8 fractional rig with running backstays.
A regular competitor on the West coast for many years she still gives a good account of herself.
Dismasted during the 2005 West Highland Week by a freak gust and a failing spreader, a new mast was ordered. The new custom made wooden mast was commissioned in 2006 along with new rigging and a new main sail.
In the capable and caring hands of the current owner since 1974 she has spent most winters ashore under cover.
Her original Thornycroft Petrol engine was replaced in 1975 with a new Watermota Sea Panther 30HP Diesel. In turn this was fully reconditioned using an exchange short engine in 1998 and is in good condition having been regularly maintained. The gearbox has been fully refurbished including new bearings in 2007.
Under power she cruises comfortably and economically at 6 kts and has a maximum speed of 7-7.5 kts.
